About the WHO
Recent crises, the most notable being Covid-19, have highlighted the gaps and failures in global health systems. Many epidemics and pandemics have been accelerated due to poor medical surveillance, weak vaccine distribution systems in rural areas, and a lack of equal access to medical resources. The impacts of this spill over into other aspects of society’s lives, such as having an economic impact due to missed work or lost income, and disruptions in food distribution and trade. The WHO needs to devise policies and plans to target the failures in global health systems and aim to build robust, resilient health systems that people from all income backgrounds can rely on. This committee also needs to look at these plans from the perspective of developing countries, or countries with a vulnerable economy, due to how they are often disproportionately impacted by epidemics and pandemics. While higher-income individuals in more developed economies can rely on savings or government aid, individuals from lower-income backgrounds may struggle to retain their livelihoods, widening inequality.
