About the UNEP
Climate change is an issue that isn’t concentrated in a singular region, but impacts our globe as a whole. Vast chains of interconnected environmental systems face increased stress due to this ever-growing issue, creating the need for strategies and efforts that can combat these catastrophic impacts. This becomes especially problematic due to the fact that developing countries, especially in the southern hemisphere, are disproportionately impacted by climate change since they are in the tropical region — a region that is known to be severely affected due to changes in precipitation patterns and weather conditions. This has a butterfly effect, since it goes on to impact access to water, access to food, and the overall livelihoods of individuals in those regions. In order to prevent this, UNEP must devise a way to effectively choose and implement strategies that aid developing nations in adapting to the ever-changing impacts of climate change. While doing this, delegates in UNEP must also carefully consider which strategies would be the most effective for specific societies and communities, both economically and environmentally.
